SEO for CakePHP Websites

Monday, March 10th, 2008

There is little web developers can do to get high rankings in search engines because most rankings are because of backlinks to your site, however we can better the possibility by utilizing fundamental rules that make more pages of your website indexed.

We develop in a framework called CakePHP.  It is getting very popular in the web development world.  However, CakePHP is simply what it is set out to be which is a framework and not a CMS or anything of that nature.  It is a framework that gives you a structured way to develop web applications and gives you handy tools to speed up the process.

SEO Basics

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

The term SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has been around since the beginning of the internet. Search engines like Google and Yahoo are the drivers that help us find our online destination. As people in business, we want our companies to show up as high as possible in searches that relate to what we offer. This article is just going to touch a few small SEO concepts that can make a world of difference with placement.

  • Keywords in Content: Search engines have programs called robots that believe it or not read through your entire website word by word. It uses complex artifical intelligence to determine what exactly the purpose your site has on the Internet. Since this is the case, you want to inject search keywords and phrases into your site content. These keywords and phrases should be items you picture your potential customers searching to find a company like yours.

  • Links: Search engines work like a popularity contest. The more sites that link to you, the more popular and legit your website looks to search engines. Therefore, your ranking will increase because each link acts like a vote for you.

  • New Content: Search engines now look for sites with fresh content. In the past, old content was king with search engines, but with the large craze of online communities and blogging, they have had to change site ranking algorithms to ensure that this content is up on the ranks. Therefore, we recommend updating your site at least once a month or even have your company start a blog.

These are purely basics of SEO. In no way can a company guarantee high rankings. The best you can do is try a mix of recommendations to try to make your site higher in rankings.
